Proudest Moment
Freshmen year is scary enough to be the youngest at school, but it's even scarier having the upperclassmen depending on you. My ninth grade year at Tracy High School I had the opportunity to be the only freshmen to compete on the varsity competition cheer squad. Which ment I had to work twice as hard. When everyone else had six months to learn the routine I had a week until our first competeition. The hardest part to master was the stunting. Being a more stalky and muscular person I was used to basing. When being mixed with the older girls I was much smaller and had to fly. My background is not cheerleading, i'm a dancer. I went from tondues and plies to high v's and toetouches, and im not exactly aerodynamic. I had my share of falls, probably more than anyone else. Mastering two legged stunts was the easy part, when i had to hit one legged stunts is where i struggled the most. And twisting is a hole different story. Working with these girls changed my life as a cheerleader. I went from the main power at the bottom of the pyramid, to the fearless one at the top. All the pain and struggle payed off at the end of our routine at nationals in Disneyland. Falling back into my bases arms from the craddle was my proudest moment. Having my team and coaches there for me felt amazing. Cheering off the mat and winning second place was all worth my struggle. I was proud to be the only cheerleading freshmen to letter.
