Proudest Moment
The end of my sophomore year was nearing; I was sixteen years old with not much to do during that summer. I had about a week before school ended; I decided to apply for a job. I entered the mall, after long school day, as confident as I could be. I began walking around the mall browsing at some stores or stands that I could potentially work at. I had my heart set on Jc Penny thinking of the employee discounts on clothes. Before I could attempt to apply, I had to pick up some items for my sister. I walked into Jc Penny at a fairly quick pace toward to cashier; I told her that I had to pick up some things for my sister. The cashier told me that if my sister had ordered something, that it would be waiting in the catalog. I walked at a fast pace as I was nervous about asking the young woman for an application. She looked up the item for me and found it nearly twenty minutes later. I was waiting for the right moment to ask her if there were any positions left at Jc Penny. When that moment came, after I had gotten everything for my sister, I just blurted out the question asking if they were still hiring. She said that the positions had been filled last week. I walked away from her; I didn’t feel like talking to anyone. I felt as if I had been rejected. I walked toward my father’s car and hopped in with a frown on my face, not saying a single word. That night, I went to sleep sad and broke. The next day, the sunshine woke me up. I rose from my messy bed and proceeded to go out job hunting again. I decided to go for a much easier job, I asked my mother to take me to Mc Donalds to get some food. I walked in and asked the young man for an application. He told me that the only way to apply was to go online and apply for a position at Mc Donalds. I grabbed my food ran into the car and my mother drove me home. I ran up the stairs with my food in hand nearly tripping on my way upstairs and dropping my Mc Double. I ate my Mc Double as I applied, getting grease all over my keyboard. Within two days the phone had rang, on the other line was a woman asking to schedule an interview with me. The day of the interview and I got dressed up as if I were going to a wedding, dress shirt and pants to match. It was about a hundred degrees that day and I could begin to feel the sweat building along my forehead. As I walked into the small white building; I was already covered in sweat. The woman asked me to enter a small cubicle. She was a tall African-American woman. She could clearly see that I was nervous from my soaked dress shirt. She began asking me fairly simple questions and I would answer each with a smile on my face. She asked me what my strong and weak points were; I made every answer relevant to school. Before I knew it, the interview was over and she offered me a part-time job as a crew member. I was speechless, and gladly accepted the job with a smile.
