To Kill A Mockingbird. Second.

So I was finally able to finish the book a couple of days ago, and to be honest, I had to force myself to read the second half. But at the very end, I was satisfied that Boo Radley finally made an appearance. During the court trial I was frustrated at how the men treated Tom, just because he was black. Although I knew Atticus would lose, it still seemed like there was hope. And in the events that followed were very interesting, how Mr. Ewell threatened Atticus and went to the judge's house even though he had won in the trial. I was really surprised when I found out that Tom had gotten shot trying to escape.
At the end, after the pageant, I was excited because I was almost done with the book, but trying not to rush because it was getting intense. How Scout and Jem were alone in the dark, and Jem kept hearing a noise but still trying not to act afraid. I was already sure that it was Mr. Ewell out to get his revenge, but I had no idea who was carrying Jem away. When they got to the house, the author kept that man a mystery for the longest time, and when she finally revealed him as Boo, I was almost as happy as Scout. Overall, this book was pretty okay. I love all the details the author put in, it made me feel like I was actually there, and I felt like I knew the characters. Very enjoyable(:

  1. I definitely agree with you with the whole Boo Radley thing! But it was worth it because its what makes this book pretty good in my opinion. Plus this book is really detailed but it didn't really make me feel as if I knew the characters. What's an example of how it makes you feel that way?

  2. I'm sure everyone was satisfied that Boo Radley had finally revealed himself to Scout and I have to admit that I was relieved to find out Jem & Scout's stalker wasn't Boo being "crazy" trying to harm them or anything close to that.

Of course the jury isn't going to side with Tom (excluding the one person who did), he's colored and the jury was made up of white males. I was also surprised by the death of Tom, especially since they shot him seventeen times. That was completely unnecessary in my opinion. They gave him a few warnings but they could of shot him once or twice and it would of probably took him down(but seventeen!!! OMG, brutal).

Even though Mr. Ewell won the case, he's just one of those characters that like to hold grudges. He confronted Atticus and nearly swore he was going to get him some how. His kids were definitely the perfect target. Cruel, even for someone as dirty as Mr. Ewell.

Agreed, the book was very enjoyable.

@Catrina, I disagree. I felt as if I were a part of Maycomb county because they vividly described almost every little bit of who people were and what occurred from time to time. During Jem and Scout's night walk I feared the worse for what would happen to them wondering if this story would end sadly.

    Anyone else?

  3. @rayna i totally felt the same way with the whole boo radley thing. It was soo irrelevant to me really. If Boo Radley didn't make an appearance, i would definitely not like the book. I actually thought Atticus was going to win. Like i had it in my head that he had it in the bag.

@paolo the author was pretty descriptive, however, i felt as if it wasn't neccessary. Then again, books need fillers. hah!

  4. Hey Rayna :)

I actually was really more attached to the second part of the novel rather than the first. It was so intense when they were in the courthouse. Everyone knew that Tom Robinson was going to loose, but when Atticus was questioning each one of them on the witness stand I thought that Tom Robinson was actually going to have a chance at winning his case.

Just like you, I already sensed that it was Mr.Ewell that was after Jem and Scout. I wasn't really expecting Boo Radley to come out at sll thorugh the novel. I thought that it was just a random farmer that happened to be around to see what was happening.

I think that you don't give this novel much credit. But, thats my opinion X) I think that this novel isn't like others. I agree there was some dull parts, but overall I thought it was quite a great novel.

  5. Rayna I agree with you about the part where you had to force yourself to read the second half of the book. I barely got done with the book, I had to keep going back to read it because there wasn't one day where I could just concentrate on only the book. Thats why summer assingments are so hard :(. But I think that overall the book was a great read indeed.

But I didnt think that Mr.Ewell would try to kill Scout or Jem,I had thought he would go for Atticus instead.

Paolo I agree; I felt as if I were a part of the Maycomb county as well. Just how Harper Lee describes everything, it makes you feel like your acctually there seeing everything with your own eyes.

  6. @Paulo dude the only reason why I said that is because I wasn't really into the book. I could understand why someone very into the book could say that because it was really descriptive.I wasn't really into it so yeah.

  7. I totally agree wit that too. I had to force myself to read the second half of the book as well. I did start getting into it again once the trail started and I was rooting for Atticus to win and was slightly discouraged when he didn't.
I'm just glad I forced myself to finish, because in the end it turned out to be a great book.
