One

I haven't had much time to read this book a lot this summer because of all the activities going on, but so far this book is brilliant. I love some characters and dislike others. This book feels very real which is one thing I like most about it. I'm only half-way through the novel and there's already suspense building up between characters. It makes me want to read even more.

I'll admit, that at times I don't understand what is going on and that I get confused on what some characters are talking about. Sometimes I have to read the page over and over again to understand it.

As I read the book, I couldn't help but find similarities between Scout and a find of mine back in elementary school. They're both stubborn children, but very adventurous. In the beginning of the novel, when Scout goes to school, her teacher finds her to be a very intelligent girl and get irritated with her. Just like Scout, my friend was also very intelligent. I felt pity for Scout when her teacher lectured her on her education.

Overall, this book is very enjoyable. I'm excited to read what will happen next.

  1. I have mentioned the same thing in my post too Francesca. The story can really get confusing at some points. But I don't think that it's the plot that is confusing. It is the language that Harper Lee uses that is confusing at times. That is great that you found a similarity between Scout and a friend of yours. Having connection to the story is a good strategy to better understand the novel.

I actually felt the same way as you when Scout's teacher lectures her on her education. I had emotions inside me that were against the teacher because of the way she treated Scout for having an over-achieved education. When I was at that point in the story, I was thinking that it is our responsibility to encourage the younger children to have a good education. But the teacher, Miss Caroline, tells Scout that she doesn't need to know all that and that her father is teaching her wrong. If I were in that teacher's place, I would have aknowledged Scout's achievement and make her an inspiration for the rest of the children. But since this story takes place along with racism, maybe that is the reason that there are not many expectations from Scout and children like her.

This story certainly is interesting. Honestly, I am slow at reading this but I am looking forward to a lot more suspense building up.
